Delano King Foundation Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement

Claymont, DE., September 21, 2018 – Delano King Foundation has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

More than 8,000 children in Liberia lost one or both parents to the 2014-2015 Ebola Virus, and are now orphans. Many of these children are left vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and violence. Worst of all, many of them are left to grow up with no adult support, family, or place to stay. They worried daily of where their next meal will come from. They lack safe drinking water, clothes, shoes and educational opportunities.

This year, Delano King Foundation’s goal is to fund the construction of orphanage in Liberia to provide moral, emotional, psychological, spiritual, educational and housing support. Occurring this year on November 27, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Delano King Foundation joined the #GivingTuesday movement because we believe that even in the darkest times, a brighter future is in the hands of those who give help and hope. We believe our talents and potential must never be buried in our local cemetery but rather be share with humanity. The movement allows us to share not only our story but our vision with others and encourage the spirit of giving to grow greater than ever before. This #GivingTuesday our goal is to fund the construction of 100 bedrooms orphanage village in Liberia to support orphans across West Africa. This will cost more than $100,000 one of the largest expenses our organization has. Being a part of the #GivingTuesday community also provides the opportunity to share the Delano King Foundation story with a wider audience to gain followers while at the same time generating support for our upcoming orphanage project in Liberia, West Africa. Our #Support4orphans campaign lunches on September 21, 2018.

“We want to transform lives in under-served global communities by creating an environment where everyone is empowered to take meaningful steps toward their God given potential,” said Delano King, Founder, President & Chief Executive Officer of the Delano King Foundation. “Understanding that we are accountable to each other regardless of our race, nationality, and religion, will empower us to do the necessary things to help make our world a better place. The #GivingTuesday movement allows us to share this goal beyond our immediate borders and encourage others to join our mission.”

Founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Over $300 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness. “We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and Executive Director of 92Y. “As we prepare for November 27, we’re energized and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal.”
