The Success Of Orphans Begins With You

Orphaned, disabled, and vulnerable children are one of the most at-risk populations in the world, especially at the close of a year filled with historic challenges. With poverty, hunger, and exploitation on the rise, they desperately need a hopeful start to the new year. But these children have not been forgotten. They are near to God’s heart, and He has called and empowered us to change their outcome.

You can reach orphaned and vulnerable children with Christ-centered care. 100% of your gift to Delano King Foundation…

  • Support for orphans and vulnerable children, Currently, there are approximately half a million orphaned, disabled, abandoned, and vulnerable children in Liberia who lost one or both parents to the Civil War and the deadly Ebola virus. These children are at great risk of exploitation, emotional and physical abuse, trafficking and sexual exploitation, hunger, neglect, and poverty. Numerous children already suffer from post-traumatic stress due to their tragic circumstances. For these children, the chances of having a healthy, adult life are limited.
  • Education Support for Children in Crisis, The education system of Liberia lags behind many other African nations, due to the country’s prolonged and brutal civil wars and the outbreak of the Ebola virus. According to USAID, the Primary School Net Enrollment Rate, the percentage of primary age students attending elementary school grades, is only 44 percent. Delano King Foundation is working within Liberia to help families in need and orphans receive an education. This is achieved through The Delano King Foundation Africa Orphans Initiative Scholarship, which empowers orphans by supporting the costs of their elementary and secondary education each year. Our end goal is to integrate these children into the community and inspire leadership. Scholarship recipients include orphaned or bereaved students who demonstrate academic achievement and a strong potential to succeed. The scholarship also provides physical and spiritual mentorship, with the goal of helping students get support and assistance with their study of various subjects and establish a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Community Water Project, There is a lack of clean water in communities across Liberia. Diseases transmitted through unclean water are a leading cause of preventable illness and premature deaths, with children being particularly vulnerable. According to the World Health Organization, nearly a million people die each year because of unsafe drinking water, with about half of those being children. During the dry season, many hours can be spent each week transporting unclean water, by hand, from rivers and swamps to homes. 1 in 4 Liberians has access to safe drinking water. Half of the population has no access to toilet facilities, making sanitation a serious problem that causes a proliferation of fast-spreading diseases like Cholera (WHO). Approximately 200 children die yearly in Liberia from the outbreaks of water-borne diseases like cholera caused by unsafe water and sanitation.
