About DKF Village
DKF Village is a nurturing community dedicated to embracing and supporting orphans and vulnerable children. We focus on helping them heal emotionally, build confidence, and develop their talents. Our mission is to create an environment where these children can live with dignity and respect, and manage their lives independently. We are committed to providing the essential care and support for children abandoned by their parents and families, ensuring they receive education and training to become successful, productive members of society who can contribute to its development.
The Challenge
In Liberia, numerous children have lost one or both parents due to the Civil War and the Ebola Virus. These orphans are exposed to significant dangers such as exploitation, abuse, trafficking, hunger, neglect, and poverty. Many are already grappling with post-traumatic stress, which further diminishes their prospects of leading healthy adult lives. These vulnerabilities jeopardize their future livelihoods. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a sustained commitment to protecting and improving the lives of these children. By addressing their needs through effective interventions, we can achieve the broadest possible impact.
For orphaned youth, survival becomes their primary focus. Many drop out of school and leave home, becoming known as Zogos – a term in Liberia for former child soldiers and drug-addicted youth. When their basic needs go unmet, they resort to begging, stealing, or facing starvation. These children endure exploitation, abuse, and illness, suffering in silence. Over time, they lose hope, trapped in a cycle that cannot be broken by under-resourced relief aid or foster care systems.
Support The Village Project: A Call For Generosity
The Delano King Foundation is launching a transformative initiative called the Village Project. This ambitious effort seeks to uplift communities by addressing the essential needs of orphans, the poor, and the less fortunate. It aims to provide not only physical sustenance but also spiritual nourishment. We believe every child deserves to live with dignity and respect. We are committed to offering the essential care, education, and training needed for these children to become successful, productive members of society. In the Bible, there’s a story about an orphan girl named Hadassah. After losing her parents, her cousin took her in. She grew up to become Queen Esther, and God used her to save the Jewish people (Esther 4:14).
