The Situation

Liberia’s 14-year civil war which ended in 2003 destroyed much of the country’s fragile infrastructure, health services, and education system. Just over a decade later, the worst Ebola outbreak in history arrived, killing over 4,800 people, devastating the lives of thousands more, and wreaking turmoil on the country’s fragile economy. Today, 4.4 million people are still in need of humanitarian assistance and 63% of the population live in poverty.

The 14-year civil war is over, but the growing number of disadvantaged and vulnerable youths known as “Zogos” across the country, remains an imminent threat to the peace and stability of the nation and its peaceful citizens and foreign residents. Most of them are former child soldiers and ex-combatants.

Who Are Zogos

Zogos are citizens of Liberia, mainly former child soldiers and ex-combatant youths who are involved in street crimes such as theft, physical attack, and harassment of pedestrians. They are mostly found in ghettos, cemeteries, marketplaces, unfinished buildings, liquor shops, and on street corners. The main sources of income for them are thievery, car loading, and begging. The continuous abuse of drugs and other addictive substances is affecting them daily. They are seen and considered as street criminals and thugs in Liberia. They are being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and forgotten by everybody.

Our Impact

Since 2017, Delano King Foundation has been working with disadvantaged and vulnerable youths across Liberia. Over the years, we have worked in more than three notorious ghettos across Liberia; providing medical assistance, serving nutritious meals, clothing, and providing rehabilitation and reintegration services through the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are committed to helping the disadvantaged and vulnerable youths of Liberia have a chance at a better life through direct physical and spiritual support. As we move ahead in our work supporting the vulnerable youths in Liberia, the Delano King Foundation’s goal is to eventually construct a Christian rehabilitation center to help transform the lives of these individuals through prayers, deliverance, and daily Bible study.

IMPACT LIVES

Thank you for your faithful support that allows us to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need. Your gift will help construct a Christian rehabilitation center and provide physical and spiritual nourishment to disadvantaged youths.
