WHERE WE SERVE

PEOPLE LIKE YOU HELP SUPPORT THOUSANDS OF ORPHANS, DISABLED, ABANDONED, AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN LIBERIA.

We partner with community leaders to provide Christ-centered care to orphaned, disabled, abandoned, and vulnerable children and families.

Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most-populous continent. Civil unrest, corruption, and power greed have caused the continent to function below its full potential causing millions to live in massive poverty. Countless children across the continent don’t have education, water, sanitation and hygiene,  healthcare, food, and clothing, and many of them grow up without parents. The majority of the world’s natural resources are found on the continent of Africa but instability and lack of infrastructure have prevented their excavation. The African continent has always been exploited by its leaders, foreign governments, corporations, and conglomerates building local essential infrastructure with the payment extracted in-kind.

What Children Face

Much work remains to be done concerning education, healthcare, rehabilitation, and reintegration of child soldiers, the protection of orphans, and vulnerable children and families, the prevention of child abandonment and trafficking, and many others. For example, 10.6 million children don’t attend school. 11 million children under the age of 14 are forced to perform child labor.

Our Approach

Delano King Foundation is investing in the vulnerable population of Liberia for the long term. Our focus is to meet the Physical and Spiritual needs of orphans, disabled, abandoned, and less fortunate children, and families and help to rehabilitate and reintegrate former child soldiers. As we move ahead in our work supporting orphans, disabled, abandoned, and less fortunate children, the Delano King Foundation hopes to eventually build orphanages and rehabilitation centers so that these children can live in communities where they are empowered to take meaningful steps toward reaching their God-given potential.

The Challenges

Many orphaned children in Liberia lost one or both parents to the Civil War and the deadly Ebola Virus. These children are at great risk of exploitation, emotional and physical abuse, trafficking and sexual exploitation, hunger, neglect, and poverty. Numerous children already suffer from post-traumatic stress due to their tragic circumstances. For these children, the chances of having a healthy, adult life are limited. These risks and other vulnerabilities are likely to harm their future livelihoods. A sustained commitment to protecting and improving the lives of these orphans and vulnerable children is required to ensure that their needs are addressed through action so that interventions made can achieve the widest possible impact.

Our Programs

We are committed to creating communities where orphans, disabled, abandoned, and less fortunate children are empowered to take meaningful steps toward reaching their God-given potential. The Delano King Foundation programs for orphans include:

  • Providing access to proper nutrition, healthcare, education, and psychosocial services;
  • Creating orphanages/rehabilitation centers to provide safe places for children to heal and rebuild their lives within a faith-based community;
  • Empowering out-of-school youth through informal education, life skills courses, and vocational training;
  • Working with communities and families to help keep children in family-based care; and
  • Providing scholarships, and social and emotional healing of orphans through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
