Born into a family struggling with poverty in Liberia, Steven Zoe has faced a lifelong battle with a mysterious illness. At just six months old, his mother discovered a rash on his hands and feet, initially dismissed as a common ailment among African infants. Despite her efforts with herbal remedies, the rash persisted, leading to a three-month hospitalization that unfortunately ended without a cure.
Steven’s illness causes him daily pain, with his hands and feet splitting and itching to the point where walking and bathing become excruciating tasks. This condition has not only inflicted physical suffering but also social isolation. Steven has never set foot in a classroom; his attempts to attend school were thwarted by rejections from the authorities, leaving him marginalized by friends and the community. Amidst this despair, Steven’s family clung to hope, albeit dwindling, as they could not afford ongoing treatments or doctor visits. In a heart-wrenching revelation, his mother’s prayers shifted from seeking healing to wishing for an end to her son’s suffering.
The turning point came when Delano King, the President & CEO of the Delano King Foundation, encountered Steven’s story on social media. Compelled by compassion and faith, King reached out to Steven’s family, offering prayers and a promise of hope. Through its World Medical Ministry, the foundation has since sponsored temporary medical treatment for Steven at Jahmale Medical Solutions Hospital in Liberia. After extensive consultations, it has become clear that Steven requires advanced medical treatment outside of Liberia. The health journey is long and costly, and without financial support, it remains an unattainable dream for Steven and his family.
The World Medical Ministry – a Ministry of the Delano King Foundation – is committed to meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the sick and suffering while spreading the message of hope through Jesus Christ. We believe in ensuring that quality medical care is accessible to the underprivileged, and Steven’s journey towards recovery is a testament to our dedication. Steven’s story is not just about the struggles of a young boy; it’s a narrative that underscores the importance of compassion and the impact of collective support. It’s a reminder that even in the direst circumstances, there are hands willing to lift others up and hearts ready to give unconditionally.
